Yes, it’s true. I’ve done it. And unlike my usual self, it didn’t take years between considering doing it and actually doing it.
Probably the years are making me wiser. Or just not so perfectionist and terrified of putting myself out there.
The truth is I do have a website. With a proper domain and everything. But (there had to be one of these) it’s taking me forever to have it good enough to share, and just recently the whole thing got a hickup (something to do with using too much hosting resources and technical stuff of sorts), and I just had to simplify it.
I know myself well enough to see the temptation to procrastinate and overcomplicate coming like a bullet train out of control, and even the first posts run the risk of becoming an installation of apologetical posts, trying to justify myself to you for taking space. So I’ll stop myself right here.
Yes, I’m starting a Substack for my too-long-in-the-making project called Ananim Atelier. (Yes, Ana, you do want to take this seriously, and yourself seriously, and you do think you have something worth sharing. Get out of your own way, if you please. :P)
If someone is going to enjoy it and value it? First things first. I hope so. But I can’t that fear stop me from taking what’s in my head and putting it out there, into the wild, all vulnerable and fearful.
So, here I am. Substack seems to carry all the promises (I’ve kind of made to myself but not really), and check all my boxes, and actually help me get out of my comfort zone into a different but seemingly comfortable-ish zone.
The plan is to keep my website and keep working on it, just in case, and in the meanwhile, use Unfinished Object to start putting things out that Instagram doesn’t have the space to.
Here, you will find:
My adventures in crochet and mosaic crochet in visual and text format, with experiments, finished and unfinished objects, and the process that went into designing and making them.
Musings about crochet, craft and making by hand, and how this flows into other apparently unrelated areas of life.
People and stuff that I find and that are inspiring and I feel like everyone should know about them. Podcasts, essays, books, creatives, whatever comes my way.
Crochet patterns and tutorials, as well as other resources, to inspire you and help you as I can to get your hook up and stitchin’ away. Because I do think humans are meant to use their hands for more than tapping on touch-screens or keyboards. And I do believe the Future (with a capital F) has to be handmade.
Thank you so much for being here and getting here! Would love to have you around and reading your thoughts on this and on future posts.
