Your writing is brilliant Ana! Your words resonate with me deeply about the time it takes us to craft. And the ongoing debate about the value of handmade items, the pricing of said items to include the time it takes. Crochet brings so much goodness to your life. May you continue to share the joy and skills with others through your classes, patterns and here on Substack. My creative heart is full reading your words here. :) I'm off to look at the post by Nourishing Things now.

You're too kind, Jodie! <3 It fills me with joy knowing you connected with this. It's something special finding there are more of us out there, who understand the struggle and the joy. And it's funny, in a nice way, how making by hand makes our minds wonder.

Do read that post by Nourishing Things. I think you'll lovely. I've also just read this one by Kavitha @craftdoodling, which feels kind of serendipitous to have crossed my feed.

So many good points here Ana! I agree, it is all in the making and the time spent happily and meaningfully to ourselves. Numbers, money matters really don't sit very well with all this. Regarding process vs. product, I like to think that we have the choice to hop around a bit or happily camp on either sides for a while. :)

Absolutely agree. The great thing about our handmaking is having no actual rules. It's an exercise in freedom, hopefully. Thank you for sharing your thoughts, Kavitha! <3

I love your writing and so enjoyed reading this. You make so many good points, particularly the underappreciation that non crafters have for the time and expense involved in making our work. Gentle education is the key here, as you describe. They won't know unless we gently tell them.

Thank you so much, Louise. <3 And yes, I agree: gentleness with others and also with ourselves goes a long way.
