Tricky question, this paid subscription thing. So far, I only have one paid subscription on Substack (Emma Gannon's, because I enjoy what she writes about creativity, and she offered a huge discount for new subscribers!). I’d love to have full access to a lot of other Substack creators, but that would be a full month’s salary, right? So, you really have to choose your paid subscriptions carefully.
I’ve also thought about enabling paid subscriptions on my own Substack. But, unlike you with your beautiful crochet patterns, I don’t have anything to teach or offer. For example, today’s post took me an hour to write. I do it for myself, sure, but at the end of the day, a girl’s gotta eat, right? So, congratulations on not being afraid to put a price on the time you spend creating these patterns, even if it’s just through a one-time donation. I like the idea, though, and I hope it sticks. ;)
Bué tricky, Mónia! I've been thinking about this for a while, but didn't want to do it out of necessity alone and for the sake of it, or feel like I was only giving in to outside pressure from seeing everyone doing it. It had to make sense.
This solution is something I'm comfortable with and excited about. It opens up new possibilities, pushes me and it's a way of valuing myself and the work I put into patterns and designing. It doesn't make me feel pushy or salesy or like I'm trying to rip people off, something I dread, because nobody misses out on anything if they don't go paid. They simply have more options that can accomodate each situation at any given moment.
Thank you so much for sharing your views. Um beijinho grande, Mónia! E bom regresso... :D (já guardei o de hoje para ler!)
Thank you so much, Jodie! <3 I'd love to have your feedback on the booklet, if you get a chance to look through it (and try it out too, of course!). :)
